UPDATE 07/2016: CLICK HERE The link talks about moving into our tiny house!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The spring of 2006 found our family in South Africa learning what real comm-unity was from a people group that were disease stricken, suffered from famine, and at the depths of poverty but had hearts full of Hope...HOPE IN THE ONE...Jesus!
As we watched the home based care volunteers walk miles and miles over rough terrain, some without a solid pair of shoes, we learned what “love your neighbor” truly meant. God began speaking to us our call, His call, that He had created us for. On the return flight home, we began discussing what we could do with what we had, which we didn't feel like was a lot at the time. Shortly after returning home, we started giving food away to families in need out of our excess from coupon shopping.
Since starting the food pantry out of our garage in 2006, through key community partnerships with churches, businesses, local organizations and the schools, we have added serving our community through our monthly Bridge Cafe free community meal, our annual Christmas Outreach blessing over 600 guests with gifts under their tree, but more importantly, the love of Jesus. We also have a clothing closet and started an Adopt A Block outreach at Kirby Park on the second Saturday of the month where we serve between 80-90 people each month. In March of 2017, we opened Feathers and Fields Resale Store focusing on infants through juniors items.
God has clearly spoken to us that we are to continue in these areas but are to fully commit our family to this community including providing a place to call home for stranded families and individuals. Through their first step inside Hope Village, (a family to family tiny house concept built within the framework of community living) a team member will love, serve, mentor and disciple them however the Lord shows us.
Since selling everything in 2013 and joining YWAM (Youth with a Mission) for the first five months of that year, our lives (including our kids) have been wrecked against the “norm”. We leaned into a much simpler lifestyle with few possessions, even living out of our suitcases for most of that year. In 2016, we sold everything (again) including our house and started building a 258 sq ft tiny house for our family of 5 and 3 inside furbabies, which we moved into when there were only walls and floor. A year into it, building as we had the cash, and it is almost done on the inside! We have enjoyed not having a mortgage to tie us down, being debt-free and living a MUCH simpler life so that we can give more.
The Lord has lead us to pray and seek out partnerships in our community. Our desire is to find people who want a mutual relationship to give and receive prayer, and who, if the Lord leads, to commit to financially partner with what we are called to so we can continue fully engaging the path God has us on.
